Overview Edublogs Serendipity webinar – skills for learning online

Introduction

The recent recorded Serendipity webinar was a lively session with participants from China, Korea and Germany as well as the USA, Canada and Australia. The topic chosen from the five sugestions was “What skills do our students need to be effective online learners?”

The Session

This session was very serendipitous with offshoots into topics that could be whole serendipity sessions on their own. We explored the main topic through audio, text and whiteboard as usual.

Wordle Student Skills

This generated many ideas about the skills that students need to learn successfully online. Catch the recording for the full flavour of this active session

Conclusion

I love Serendipity sessions with the discussion going where it will on the day. It is so much in the nature of “unconference” sessions that they are not constrained by structure so that we explore. These sessions certainly provide me and I hope others with much food for thought.

Next Session

FineFocusSmallOur next Webinar is an Edublogs “Fine Focus” session. This week I will share how I am using iGoogle in: “iGoogle – do youGoogle?” I have used iGoogle since being introduced to it several years ago by Sue Waters who is also the Edublogger. It has slowly evolved into the hub of my Personal Learning Environment (PLE) where all the strands of my Personal Learning Network (PLN) come together. Join us on Thursday Oct 7th at 23:00 GMT/UTC (7pm USA EST, Midnight BST) or Friday Oct 8th at 1am CEST, 7am West Aus, 10am NSW, depending on your timezone – in the usual Elluminate room

In the Future

If you are a regular visitor to our webinars you will know that we alternate “Fine Focus” sessions on specific topics with “Serendipity” the unconference sessions where we choose a topic by poll at the start of the session. Sometimes the very fact of being asked for “hot topics” or other ideas for discussion or learning tends to make our minds blank. This has prompted me to start a Serendipity Wallwisher for topic suggestions. Please visit the wall and add your ideas for Serendipity topics so that we have more choices to consider. Some of these ideas might also form the basis for future “Fine Focus” sessions.
